Marchers remember veterans during annual ceremonies and parade.

Westfield was a sea of patriotic remembrance Monday as hundreds of residents turned out for the annual Memorial Day Parade.

Starting with a ceremony and wreath laying at the war memorial at North Avenue and East Broad Street, the day was a mix of remembrance, festivity and civic pride. Following the ceremony, which included several speeches, town officials, bands, scouting troops and community groups paraded a mile and a half down East Broad Street from the war memorial to Fairview Cemetery, greeted by cheering crowds lining the parade route. The parade was led by grand marshal Claire Butler, a veteran of World War II.

Following the parade, a small group gathered on  a hill top in Fairview for the annual Memorial Day ceremony from the American Legion remembering American troops killed in battle.
