New Penn Station Entrance Opened This Morning

New entrance at 31st Street and 7th Avenue aims to reduce congestion.

Starting this morning, New York City’s Penn Station travelers may find an easier route between the ticketing concourse and the street.

N.J. Transit Executive Director Richard Sarles formally opened a new gateway, located at the corner of 31st Street and 7th Avenue.

The entrance is expected to reduce congestion at other Penn Station entrances. The new entrance is fully accessible and includes escalators, an elevator and stairways, in addition to new signage and electronic message boards. The entrance is located near a set of NJ Transit concourses and ticket agents on the east side of the station.

Other Penn Station entrances are located at 32nd Street and 7th Avenue, 34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, 32nd Street and 8th Avenue and 31st Street and 8th Avenue.

Penn Station is the nation’s busiest rail terminal, according to New Jersey Transit, and more than 81,000 N.J. Transit customers use the terminal daily. The station also serves Amtrak and the Long Island Railroad, along with the New York City Subway.
