Five Things You Need to Know for May 3, 2011

Five things going on today.

1) The Board of Education swearing in ceremony is at 7:30 p.m. followed by the reorganization meeting at 8 p.m., both at 302 Elm Street. Ann Cary, Mark Friedman and Rosanne Kurstedt will all take the oath of office and the board will elect a president and vice president for the year.

2) The Town Council is meeting at 8 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

3) Property taxes are due and can be paid at the Municipal Building.

4) The Searching for Work Group will be meeting from 9:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in the Parish House.

5) Today is the 209th anniversary of Washington, DC being incorporated as a city and the 78th anniversary of former Wyoming Gov. Nellie Tayloe Ross becoming the first woman to head the U.S. Mint. Governor Ross was the first woman to serve as governor of a U.S. state.
