Five things you need to know for today.

1) Today is Ash Wednesday and the Presbyterian Church is hosting a service at 8 p.m., Holy Trinity has masses at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 12:10 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and a Ash Wednesday service at 3:30 p.m., St. Helen's has distribution at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and St. Paul's Episcopal Church is having masses at 7 a.m., 12:10 p.m. 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

2) Eight candidates have filed for the April 27th Board of Education election: Jessica Blessing, Ann Cary, Mark Friedman, Keith Hertell, Karym Hoems, Rosanne Kurstedt, Joseph Miceli and Jennifer Silva.

3) Tickets for the Westfield High School spring musical, "Sweeney Todd," can be purchased all week. The show is on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 233-0563 or emailing WHStickets@westfieldnjk12.org.

4) The Memorial Library will be hosting morning Toddler Time from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

5) Today is the 155th anniversary of the founding the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the 52nd anniversary of the debut of the Barbie doll.
