Five Things You Need to Know for March 7, 2011

Five things going on today.

1) The Board of Health is meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

2) The Memorial Library is hosting preschool story time from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

3) Petitions to run for the Board of Education in the April 27 election are available in the board secretary's office at 302 Elm Street. Completed petitions are due back by 4 p.m. on Tuesday to qualify for the ballot. Three seats are up for election.

4) Tickets for the Westfield High School spring musical, "Sweeney Todd," can be purchased all week. The show is on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 233-0563 or emailing WHStickets@westfieldnjk12.org.

5) Today is the 135th anniversary of Alexander Graham Bell being granted a patent for the telephone, the 46th anniversary of a group of 600 civil rights marchers being forcibly broken up in Selma, Ala. and the 26th anniversary of the debut of "We Are the World."
