Five Things You Need to Know for March 2, 2011

Five things going on today.

1) The Junior Women's Club of Westfield will be holding a meeting at the Westfield Y at 7:30 p.m.

2) The homework helpers will be at the Memorial Library from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

3) Restaurant Week continues this week in downtown Westfield. Restaurants will be having various specials for lunch and dinner. Check with the restaurants on the details of their specials.

4) Petitions are available to run for the Board of Education in the April 27 election at the board secretary's office at 302 Elm Street. Completed petitions are due back by 4 p.m. on March 8 to the board secretary.

5) Today is the 204th anniversary of Congress passing a bill prohibiting the foreign slave trade, the 134th anniversary of Congress declaring Rutherford B. Hayes the winner of the 1876 presidential election and the 62nd anniversary of the first automated street light being installed in New Milford, Conn.
