Annual Car Show Cruises into Westfield

Proceeds benefit the Westfield Neighborhood Council.

More than 75 exotic cars from all across the tri-state area filled the parking lot on the corner of North and Central Avenues Sunday for the Westfield Neighborhood Council's annual car show.

Mary Withers, chair of the event, said the entire day was "awesome."

"It was so much fun," Withers said. "The Batmobile was there, kids could play with little toy cars, it was just a wonderful, wonderful show."

Withers said the car show, a fundraiser for the Neighborhood Council's center, located at 127 Cacciola Pl., is crucial to the its survival. She explained that the non-profit center provides a drug and alcohol prevention program, Dream Makers, sponsored by the Municipal Alliance of Westfield, for teens. The center also hosts activities for senior citizens. Every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seniors are welcome to come listen to speakers discussing current events. They can also engage in arts and crafts or play games. Summer programs are also available for neighborhood children.

"We give all the honor and the glory to the Town of Westfield for allowing us to use that parking lot," Withers said. "It was a very successful event."

Withers said businesses either provided financial assistance or supplied volunteers and interesting automobiles to draw in the crowd. She also extended her gratitude to members of Girl Scout Troop 769, Anna Browne and Gina Reed, for helping the Westfield Neighborhood Council clean up after the event.

"It was really more like a family picnic," Withers said. "Everything worked out really nice. The money raised goes into a general fund and some of that money is used to pay for summer programs for the children."

Withers added that the recent yard sale and fish fry held at the center, run by Janet Turner and Tina Graves, was also a success.

"We continue to try to raise money to meet our expenses," Withers said.

Withers also thanked the general public for coming to the show and the following local merchants for their continued support:
