Broadway Review Brightens Evening

Nicholas King performs favorite musical selections in Mindowaskin Park

At 7:30 in the evening on Thursday, July 30, Mindowaskin Park was turned into a party as Nicholas King performed favorite musical selections.

King has performed on Broadway in "Beauty and the Beast", as well as on ABC's The View, The Late Show with Jay Leno, and The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

At just eighteen years old, King was very good at interacting with the audience between each song. He was relatable, funny, and cheerful, and the audience of over 100 people was very receptive.

All ages were present at the concert, and the young children enjoyed dancing along to the music. At some points King encouraged everyone to clap along to the music, and they were happy to oblige.

The pieces that King performed included Broadway songs, as well as popular culture favorites. Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World," selections from  "My Fair Lady", Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," songs about Chicago and San Francisco, and Johnnie Ray were nicely received.

There was also a blues section in which two Sammy Davis Jr pieces were performed, including one of his songs that was in the musical "Stop the World I Want To Get Off." The last song King sang was "Smile" by Nat King Cole as a tribute to Michael Jackson, which was a thoughtful ending touch.

One female in attendance was greatly enjoying herself, and she thought King "has a fantastic voice."
