DAY 1: SNAP Challenge

What it's like to eat on $4 a day.

I shopped yesterday on the SNAP budget for the week of $30. I really thought while it would be hard, that I could do it with a little planning. I am a good shopper, know my prices and cook meals regularly. But it wasn't prepared for how fast the dollars accumulated and how little was in the cart.

No juice, no cheese, little meat and I still had to put some things back. Confession, I did buy coffee, the really cheap brand, which worked out to less than 25 cents a day.

How would I be ever able to work into my budget butter, oil or any of those things I use to cook with but take for granted that I can buy when I need them and not think too much about it?
