Meet Jack and Matt

We have the opportunity to open the doors to Town Hall and let in a wind of fresh air. Helping me to push open these doors are Democratic Fourth Ward candidate, Jack Walsh, and Democratic Third Ward candidate, Matt Sontz. Let me tell you a little bit about each of these men.

John J. ("Jack") Walsh is the Democratic candidate to become a Westfield Fourth Ward Councilman. He is a 20 year resident of Westfield and has 4 children, Bart, Tad, Gwen and Tim. Walsh was a Councilman representing the 3d Ward from 1997 through 2000. He was Chairman of the Public Works Committee, a member of the Law and Rules Committee and Council liaison to the Recreation Commission and Board of Education. He was a Westfield Booster, a member of the Board of the Westfield Baseball Association and coached Westfield baseball, St. Helen's basketball and WSA soccer. He has also taught high school CCD at St. Helen's Church where he is a parishioner. Walsh is a graduate of St. Joseph's College (now University) and Villanova University School of Law. He practices transportation and maritime law in Manhattan.

Matt Sontz is running for Westfield Town Council to represent the Third Ward. Matt's a lawyer with his office in Westfield. Previously, he was with Norris, McLaughlin & Morris in Somerset and McCarter & English in Newark. He's a graduate of Rutgers University- College of Engineering and Rutgers University School of Law. He and his wife Lillian Sontz have lived in Westfield for 10 years. They have 3 young children, Tyler, Dylan, and Skylar.

This is Matt's third time running for council. He hopes the third time is the charm. Matt has been involved with his community in many ways. He is proud to have circulated and presented a petition to restore a crossing guard at Central and Sycamore. The crossing guard was successfully restored!!

He is Secretary and previously was Treasurer of the Westfield Democratic Committee. He has served as a member of the Union County Construction Board of Appeals for 6 years.

Everywhere I go Republicans and Independents tell me they believe its time for a change. It won’t be easy – but we can win. Jack, Matt and I need you – we need people to make phone calls to convince indifferent democrats and independents to file mail-in-ballots. We need your help in identifying people who we need to get out to the polls on Election Day. We need your help distributing literature, and working to get out the vote on Nov 5th. We need people to volunteer to have a sign in their yard. If you can do any of these things, please sign up at the davehaas4mayor.com web site.

Please feel free to email me about any questions and concerns you have about Westfield. I plan on having small group coffees to listen to your concerns about living in Westfield.  My email is: dave@davehaas4mayor.com
