As part of his campaign for a second term as Westfield Councilman for the Fourth Ward, Councilman Keith Loughlin showed the ultimate commitment: playing kickball without shoes for the benefit of Team Westfield.

Keith’s Kickball Game – Third Time’s The Charm hosted its third annual game on Saturday, September 21 at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside. The two teams, Team Westfield and Team World, battled it out for an hour, ending in a tie—a strong improvement for Team Westfield, who for the past two years has not finished on top.

“I’m very happy we had a great event,” Loughlin stated. “Congratulations to both Team Westfield and Team World on a well-fought contest."

Councilman Sam Della Fera and former Springfield Mayor Ziad Shehady both put forth admirable efforts, and Loughlin’s mother, sister and father also took part in the game. In attendance to cheer on the teams were Westfield Mayor Andy Skibitsky, Mr. James Ward and Mr. John Ward among others.

“I am proud of everything we accomplished during my first term on council,” Loughlin expressed in an email. He noted that these accomplishments include: adding off-street parking spaces in the high school grid and reducing the number of student cars on the street, stopping the 150-foot Armory cell tower, reducing town payroll by 20% while avoiding layoffs, paving numerous roads and protecting property values in Westfield.

For his second term, Loughlin said that he plans on continuing to control town spending, lobbying NJ Transit to provide peak and weekend direct train service to New York Penn Station, paving more roads and keeping property values secure.

Said Loughlin: “There is always more work to be done…[and] I am focused on…keeping Westfield great.”
