Summer Arts Festival's Free Concert Series off to a Bang

Lawn chairs, ice cream, and live music made Wednesday's performances at Echo Lake Park everything you could ask for in a summer concert. Music fans young and old came out to a real treat of two local Union County bands who are both quite gifted musically.
The first band, Lot B, came out to a cover of Howie Day's hit single "Collide". Once they had the crowd's attention, they pledged to play some "Jersey Style music". This was backed up by a few Bruce Springsteen classics as well as Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive". Lot B then looked for the crowd's help in singing classics such as "Brown Eyed Girl" and even got a few people dancing to Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Pride and Joy". They then continued to close a solid set with Oasis' smash hit "Wonderwall".
The Rick Cantor Band followed Lot B and jumped right into it with Elvis Costello's "Peace, Love, and Understanding" just as dark began to set in. The band also put on one of the more remarkable Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers impersonations in the area, playing a number of their classic hits. When it was time for the drummer's recommendation, Ringo Starr's "It Don't Come Easy" was the track of choice. The band also performed fantastic covers of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" and Wings' "Baby I'm Amazed".
Both bands put on spectacular shows and really credited the crowd for the experience. Both being local bands, its nice to see such a turn out and support for our homegrown talent. Travis Hudelson, drummer of the Rick Cantor Band summed it up by saying "Playing in the Union County Concert Series is incredibly special for all of us. We get to share the music we love with all of our friends and family, right at home. It's a celebration of summer and we couldn't love it more."
The Summer Concert Series offers 7 more shows throughout the remainder of the summer. They occur ever Wednesday starting at 7:30 pm. The shows in July will take place at Echo Lake Field by the 9/11 Memorial. In August the series will shift to Oak Ridge Park in Clark. Come out and support some local talent, all while listening to some fantastic music.
