Four businesses in downtown Westfield have joined forces to give shoppers a midweek break.

Customers who make a purchase at , , and  on Wednesdays will receive a 10 percent off coupon that they can use at any one of the other stores throughout the day.

"We had been talking to Alan (Alan Weinberg from Alan's Orchard) and Lauren (Ramos) and Damon (O'Gara, both from Coolvines) about doing something like this for quite some time now," said Becky Solheim, who co-owns Savory Spice Shop with her sister Jackie Mittelhammer.

"After the holidays we were able to start focusing on our co-marketing ideas and the coupon was brought to life. Between our four shops we seem to have a similar customer base, so we are hoping the coupon creates an ever-better shopping experience for our existing customers and we hope to gain new customers out of the offering as well."

Ramos of CoolVines agrees that the offer presents shoppers with an easy way to gather their goods and save a little money at the same time.

"I think the coupon is a great way for foodies to get the goods they need to make great gourmet meals for the week," she said. "It doesn't get much better than being able to take a quick walk around town and find the freshest local ingredients, unique spices, perfectly paired wine, and world-class culinary accouterments...all at a discount."

"We have so much fun working with our friends at Savory Spice Shop and Cool Vines to help everyone cook, eat and drink with the freshest and ‘funest,’ yes that’s a word, ingredients we can source for downtown Westfield," said Weinberg, Chief Freshness Officer at Alan’s Orchard. "As foodies, we definitely look to make food and spirits fun, special and unique  -- and with the Jersey Fresh Season around the corner, we at Alan’s Orchard are super-excited to work with both stores as we launch our 2012 Fresh Box program later this spring.”

While Alan's, Savory and CoolVines started the new promotion three weeks ago, Williams Sonoma gets into the act for the first time today.

"We're happy to be able to offer something back to our loyal customers," said Williams Sonoma manager Jennifer Tomaszek. "It's nice to have a reciprocal link to the other shops as well."

The merchants said the promotion will continue every Wednesday until further notice.
