Westfield Resident Appointed Executive Director of JCC of Central New Jersey

The JCC of Central Jersey recently hired a new Executive Director who formerly held the position of Senior Vice President of Development at the Advertising Council.

Jennifer Mamlet took the reigns Jan. 14 as the JCC in Scotch Plains’ new executive director. Mamlet started her career as a social worker and also served as the Director of (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education (S.C.O.P.E). As the director of S.C.O.P.E, she headed the fundraising for summer camps, which served underprivileged children.

“Jennifer is a great fit for our JCC,” said Robin Brous, the JCC’s Assistant Executive Director and Early Childhood Director in a press release.  “As an integral part of our community, our JCC must always provide excellent, relevant programming and services.”

Mamlet resides in Westfield with her husband and two children. She has been a member of the JCC since she moved to this area.

“I am thrilled to join the JCC of Central New Jersey as the Executive Director,” said Mamlet in a press release announcing her new appointment. “Harnessing and guiding the passion of this truly dedicated group of staff and volunteers is very exciting, as they are truly what make the JCC an exceptional place.”

The public is invited to meet Mamlet at the JCC on Feb. 5, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The JCC of Central New Jersey is located at 1391 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains and serves members from a variety of nearby communities.

The JCC provides many features that include access to their fitness and wellness center, cultural arts and education programs, camps, exercise classes and early childhood services including Preschool and Kindergarten. 

Members receive a discounted rate on programs and classes, but non-members are also welcome to attend the JCC, as stated in their catalogue. However, only members can take advantage of the school and camps.

Located at the JCC is a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center with recently updated equipment, group classes and both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.

Sandra Kenoff, Director of Marketing and Special Events at the JCC, said the center’s outdoor swimming pool serves as a pool club for members during the summer months. There is also a café located in the JCC with doors located right across the hall which lead you to an outdoor patio.

A well-known aspect of the JCC is Camp Yachad, which runs camp programs at four locations including the JCC in Scotch Plains, the Academy for Performing Arts at Union County Vocational-Techinical School in Scotch Plains, Wardlaw-Hartridge in Edison and a travel camp in Springfield.

Coming this summer, the Maccabi Sports Camp will take place at the Wardlaw-Hartridge campus offering 2,4,6 or 8-week sessions of numerous sports for 1st to 4th graders.

The Day Camp held at the JCC provides outdoor activities, swim instruction, arts & crafts and more for children ages 18 months to nine.  Children who take part in the Travel Camp can sign up for trips to Hershey, PA, Boston, Washington, DC or even as far as Disney World.

In addition to the JCC’s programs for young children, the center also offers a variety of programs for teens, adults and seniors. These programs include book discussions, trips, a Jewish Teen Film Festival, bridge, musical performances and many more.

Also, located on the second level of the JCC is the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ.  The foundation assists Jewish people in a variety of ways including job search help and counseling, as well as helping them connect to individuals or families connect to others.
