Westfield Financial Advisor Talks College Planning

Jeff Romond will be speaking at the Summit YMCA tonight and the Springfield library in May.

Westfield resident and financial advisor Jeff Romond spoke to parents Tuesday evening at the Union Public Library about how to prepare financially for college. 

Romond will be giving the same talk this evening at 7 p.m. at the Summit Area YMCA. The event will be free and open to the public. 

Romond discussed ways to shrink the cost of college and maximize financial aid. He covered how you can figure out your "Expected Family Contribution" for the cost of college and he offered tips for filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

"There are many ways to prepare yourself financially for a college education, whether your child is one year old and you're looking for ways to save or they're starting their freshman year this fall," Romond said. "My job is to educate you about the various options available."

The financial advisor noted that 82 percent of students who go to college capture some kind of tuition discount, and the average discount is 53.5 percent. Romond also discussed the possibility of receiving grants and athletic scholarships

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, Romond will discuss how to at the Springfield Library.

The programs are free of charge and open to the public.
