Westfield Animal Hospital Triples in Size and Services

The office will be open during renovations.

Dr. Anthony Loomis, who grew up in Scotch Plains, can remember bringing his childhood pet to . So, when looking to open a new practice, the veterinarian decided to return to his roots.

The full-service medical, surgical, and dental facility, located on South Avenue, was opened in 1961 by Dr. Ronald Swist, who is continuing to see patients for the next few months before he retires.

Loomis, whose field of expertise is exotic pets such as birds and reptiles, is joined by business partner Dr. Scott Linick and Dr. Kathleen Neumann.

A specialist in veterinary dentistry, Linick also owns Plainfield Animal Hospital and on Route 22, which offers basic care for pets for a lower fee than what one might incur at a larger office. The clinic is one of the first of its kind to open on the East Coast.

Loomis and Linick plan to remodel the office, including the waiting room and boarding area, and expand the animal hospital's hours and services. In addition to accepting appointments and walk-ins, the veterinarians also will be available for house calls. Day care, which can provide peace of mind to pet-owning commuters, and boarding are also offered.

Loomis said the practice will strive to provide the best of both "the old and the new." While Westfield Animal Hospital offers state-of-the art technology and high-quality products, the doctors wish to retain the personal touch. Loomis explained that goal of the practice is to develop a customized treatment plan for every pet, because each one is unique. The doctors are also strong advocates of preventative care to keep pets as healthy as possible.

Rounding out the practice, Neumann focuses on alternative therapies. The office is also staffed with licensed technicians who are trained in a wide range of pet care services.

Renovations to the hospital will begin later this summer but the practice will remain open for appointments during that time. The office's new hours of operation are: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Parking is available in the rear of the hospital. The practice accepts some pet insurance plans.
