Viva Glam Salon 'Cuts for Cancer' on October 28

The salon donated $2,200 to the American Cancer Society last year.

How's this for multi-tasking? Get a haircut and fight cancer at the same time. Westfield's Viva Glam Salon is hosting its third annual 'Cuts for Cancer' from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.

All proceeds from the day, including tips, are donated to the American Cancer Society.

Salon co-owner Lisa Ramirez explained that many of the women who work at Viva Glam have had family members who've battled cancer and so each has been affected by the disease.

"We decided we were going to fight back," said Ramirez. "Because each of us had been touched by a different form of cancer, we decided to donate to a general charity."

The stylist said the salon has had a "wonderful" response to the fundraising effort.

"Last year we raised $2,200 and the year before that $2,300," she said. "People cook for us so we can offer finger foods and cookies and cupcakes throughout the day. We also raffle baskets that are donated. The girls donate their time. It's a wonderful event."

Ramirez added that no appointments are necessary, blowouts are not included, and cash is the preferred method of payment. The salon is also selling pink t-shirts throughout the month of October.

"Viva Glam loves giving back," said Ramirez.

In May, the salon surpassed the . The dinner/dance and tricky tray for Alzheimer's disease research.
