Town Book Store Says Thanks for Shopping Indie

East Broad Street shop is one of the last two remaining independent bookstores in Union County.

The big retailers have Black Friday and the online retailers have Cyber Monday. For the past three years, small business owners now have their kickoff to the holiday shopping season with Small Business Saturday.

Starting Saturday Nov. 24, customers will receive 20 percent off select 2012 Indie Next List Titles (see attached pdf) at The Town Book Store. These titles are independent bookseller favorites and sure to make great gifts this holiday season. This offer will continue through the East Broad Street bookseller's week-long 'Thanks for Shopping Indie' celebration.

"Especially because of the power outage that resulted in loss of business for a week, many small businesses in town have suffered a financial loss that really hurts," said Anne Laird, Town Book Store owner. "Keeping a small, independent bookstore going is challenging even in the best of times in today's world, so we are hoping that this day and the following week promotion at our store might help restore some of that lost revenue."

Consumers are a key part in helping small businesses thrive, Laird explained in the shop's newsletter. By shopping or dining at a small business starting this November 24th, you're showing your support for all the small communities around you. This means you could be helping local entrepreneurs offer more jobs, which in turn invigorate the economy. Last year, over 100 million people came out to shop at independently-owned small businesses on the day. This year, go out and support your favorite small business and search for savings on unique merchandise while experiencing spectacular service - a cornerstone of many small businesses.

Keep in mind some of the services The Town Book Store provides are those which larger competitors do not or cannot offer.

"We offer a quick turnaround on special orders, usually in a day or two with no shipping charges and free gift wrapping," said Laird.

Since its founding in 1934, Westfield has supported The Town Book Store, one of the last two remaining independent bookstore in Union County.

"Personal customer service is a key component of our business," Laird said. "We love to make recommendations and happily take the time to help you find just what you are looking for. We will gladly accept your American Express card on Small Business Saturday."
