Stop & Shop Expansion Hearing Continues

The Planning Board will meet at 7:30 p.m.

The Westfield Planning Board will hold its fifth public meeting this year at 7:30 p.m. tonight to address Stop & Shop’s application to expand its Westfield supermarket and parking area. The meeting will be held at the Municipal Building.

The last meeting, held June 5, ran more than three hours and served as a continuation of testimony from Stop & Shop’s sound expert, Stephen Szulecki, and cross-examination by Ron Gasiorowski, who represents Westfield resident James Hughes–an objector to the proposed expansion.

When the Board met in May, Gasiorowski, cross-examined Szulecki at length. Gasiorowski, of Gasiorowski & Holobinko, in Red Bank, NJ, has previously represented ShopRite in a legal battle in which the supermarket attempted to block competitors from setting up shop on Routes 1&9 in Linden, according to a report in NJ.com.

Gasiorowski also represented ShopRite owner Karl Eickhoff, who owns supermarkets in Cinnaminson, Hainesport, Mount Laurel, Willingboro and Delran, in a 2011 case opposing the expansion of a Cinnaminson Walmart, according
PhillyBurbs.com report.

Tonight's meeting will include testimony from Gasiorowski’s traffic, sound, engineering, and planning experts.
