Savory Spice Shop Hosts Two Summer Classes

Workshops offer ideas on how to take advantage of the season's bounty.

There's no rest for the spicy! While the co-owners of were going to take the summer off from hosting cooking classes, sisters Jackie Mittelhammer and Becky Solheim decided this season presents a great opportunity to learn some new techniques.

The following classes are offered at the East Broad Street spice emporium:

Thursday, July 19th at 7 p.m.
Hillary Irwin, a local registered dietician, is going to show you how to incorporate all of your fresh, local produce into your everyday cooking. fresh box provides its customers with a bounty of fresh, local produce on a weekly basis. Hillary will be preparing dishes using the produce from that week’s Fresh Box. Come find out how to make YOUR fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables Savory!  Cost - $15/pp.

Curious about canning? It's easier than you would think! All you need is fresh produce and your favorite spices, and you'll be on your way to tasty homemade pickles, applesauce, and more. Join us as local resident and farmer's daughter Jenny Lichtenwalner shows us how to make Garlic Dill Refrigerator Pickles. She'll also talk about how to make your pickles shelf-stable with water bath canning. Jenny grew up working at the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC and her canning has been featured in the Star-Ledger.  Cost - $20/pp.
