Get in Shape For Women Hosts Open House Saturday

Weight training studio offers a sneak peak.

When Rob Maistickle was in high school he saw his dream of becoming a Division I football player crumble after he shattered his vertebrae early on in his junior year. The owner of Westfield's new Get in Shape For Women believed his days as a competitive athlete were over until he discovered personal training.

Through working with a certified instructor who created an individualized fitness plan, Maistickle "rehabbed" his back, strengthened his core and went on to become a Division I wrestler.

"It's kind of the reason why I'm doing what I do today," said the entrepreneur who is excited to introduce his new upscale, personal fitness studio to the Westfield community.

Located at 327 South Avenue, Get in Shape for Women, will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. The event will allow ladies an opportunity to learn more about the intimate center designed to appeal to both the fitness novice and expert before it officially opens on Monday, Feb. 4.

"It's a place where women can go where they won't be so uncomfortable with 100 people watching them," Maistickle said. "This is a studio where women who might never have done this before can come work out but at the same time women who have and who are used to working out can come in and get a great workout. It's built for both."

"You know what it also is, it's affordable personal training," said Rob's dad and not-so-silent partner, Joe. "We're a fraction of what a personal trainer costs."

Sessions are by appointment only and run for one hour. After purchasing a membership, each workout is priced from $19 to $29 and accommodates one to four women with one personal trainer. In addition to cardio and weight training, the studio also focuses on nutrition and accountability.

Offering clients a menu of the right foods, Rob said, is ideal because the more energy you have, the more energy you are likely to burn.

"You're going to feel better about yourself, you're going to lose weight you're going to get in shape, whatever your goal is," he said. "What I do here and promote is a lifestyle. This is something you could do if you left here. You'd know what to go grocery shopping for. You'd know how much to eat when you went out to dinner. If you went to a gym now, you wouldn't feel so uncomfortable because you know what kind of workouts to do. You'd know if you're doing it correctly or not."

Joe said another thing Rob does with clients is offer them support if they aren't reaching their goals.

"He sits down with them if they're not losing weight. He gives them a journal. He sees what they're eating, what's going wrong and he fixes it. It really does work," he said.

This is the second franchise for the father-son duo. Their Warren location, opened nearly two years ago, currently has a waiting list, as only 150 to 160 slots are available at each facility. At Saturday's open house, a client who lost 100 pounds through working out at the Warren Get In Shape will be available to share her personal success story.

Staffed by certified personal trainers, Joe said most have degrees in exercise science.

"And each workout is tailored to the individual," Rob said. "I'll have a woman who is 35 and a marathon runner working out beside a 68-year-old woman who's just had a knee replacement. We can work them out individually at their own intensity."

Rob said he wants women to know the studio "is a comfortable environment."

"This is not one of this intimidating places," he said. "Whether you want to just get fit and lose two pounds or you want to lose 100 pounds, we want you to have some type of goal. The energy here is through the roof and that's what we're looking for."

The Maistickles also have plans to open additional studios in Cranford and Bridgewater. Westfield's Get in Shape for Women will open Monday, Feb. 4. Hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. The Maistickles said they plan to expand those hours based on customer needs.
