Cake Boss: Westfield a 'No-Brainer' for New Location

Buddy Valastro said Westfield has one of the most beautiful downtowns in all of New Jersey and is 'ecstatic' about opening Carlo's Bakery on East Broad Street.

Buddy Valastro, star of TLC's "Cake Boss," and his family received a warm welcome in Westfield Sunday morning as they celebrated the ribbon cutting at Carlo's Bakery, the newest offshoot of their flagship Hoboken store.

Lines stretched down East Broad Street and around North Avenue as hungry fans waited to catch a glimpse of the celebrity baker and his now-famous famiglia.

Valastro was calm amid the flurry of activity inside his newest bake shop. He and other 'Cake Boss' favorites, including Mauro & Maddalena Castano, posed for photos with fans and local officials. Valastro said he is "ecstatic" about his newest store and added that seeing the crowds waiting to greet him touched his heart.

Making that welcome even sweeter for Valastro, aspiring bakers Logan and Lindsay Biebelberg, of Springfield and Shira Kalet of Millburn, big fans of the show, came bearing homemade apple cookies.

"I love to bake," Lindsay Biebelberg said. "It's fun."

Valastro's crew agrees. Vinny Tubito of Carlo's said the bakers had been busy for "three-to-four days straight and all through last night" preparing for the big day.

Making the wait a bit more bearable for patrons, crumb cake samples were offered to those in the queue.

April Adams and Anthony Tedesco of Springfield got in line at 10:15 a.m. said they're thrilled to have a Carlo's Bakery in Westfield.

Members of the Westfield High School girls volleyball team also came out to support Valastro and said they hope they can count on him returning the favor when it comes time for their annual 'Pink Out,' which raises funds and awareness for breast cancer. This year's event will be held Friday, Oct. 11.

If the 'Cake Boss' keeps his word, the team should be in luck.

"We're looking to do good things for the community," Valastro said.

While Carlo's Bakery's hours haven't been set just yet, Tubito said every customer in line Sunday would be served.
