Three Juveniles Accused of Bike Thefts

Police seek owners of eight bikes recovered at Westfield Train Station Tuesday night.

Three Plainfield juveniles were arrested Tuesday night at the Westfield Train Station for stealing the bikes they were riding, police said.

Westfield Police Capt. Scott Rodger said officers responded to a report of a large crowd of juveniles at the South Side of the train station near the bike rack "acting suspicious" at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When a police officer approached, the juveniles began to flee, Rodger said. Several bike locks had been cut and it was determined the bikes they were riding had been stolen, he said.

Of the eight bikes that have been recovered, police have only been able to determine the ownership of one. Rodger said anyone who is missing a bicycle and has not yet reported it stolen should contact police at 908-789-4000.

Rodger added that police are investigating if the juveniles were involved in recent bike thefts that occurred in town.
