Westfield Band, Static Jacks, Releases Sophomore Album

'In Blue' is available Monday.

Westfield band, the Static Jacks, releases their sophomore album, “In Blue” on Monday. The band is already making waves by being featured on Fuse TV and touring around the country, as well as in other countries.

For a sneak peak of “In Blue” listen, here. The album will be available on iTunes and through the band.

The band consists of Westfield High School graduates, Nick Brennan, Henry Kaye and Ian Devaney, with the later addition of Roselle native, Michael Sue-Poi. Brennan, Kaye and Devaney originally formed the band as part of a high school project, but took it to the next level when Sue-Poi joined.

“We found him (Sue-Poi) on a mystical quest to complete our group of musical merry men,” Brennan said.

The band’s first album, “If You’re Young & Spray Tan,” was not received well, according to Brennan, because the band was still trying to find their identity. However, the experience recording it with Andrew Murray in Westfield at a studio owned by one of the Smashing Pumpkins was an “overwhelming and incredible” experience, Brennan said.

Static Jacks are signed to Old Friends Records, a sister label to Fearless Records.

The first single off of the Static Jacks sophomore album, “In Blue,” is called, “Wallflower.” “In Blue” was recorded with Andrew Murray in Red Bank at “Retromedia Sound Studios.” The video for “Wallflower” was filmed mostly in Westfield and combines a feel for the movie of “Weird Science” with a “Romeo and Juliet” theme, according to the band. The band hosted an album release party last week at Webster Hall Studio in New York City, which is followed by upcoming tour dates across the United States. For a look inside ‘Static Jacks’ on tour, view the tour video, here (editor’s note: vulgar language may be heard).

“Music fads come and go, but there is always-solid rock bands… Zeppelin, The Clash, Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys… all they had were guitars and drums and melodies,” Brennan said. “We would like to be thought of in the same arena. We’d also like to literally play in the same arena.”
