Take a Road Trip With CoolVines

Visit Red Hook Winery for a five-course dinner.

Wine-lovers can enjoy a getaway without having to do the driving when CoolVines hosts a trip to Brooklyn-based Red Hook Winery from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

"It's bigger and better this year," said CoolVines' Lauren Ramos, who coordinated last year's lunchtime visit. "The winery has been rebuilt after the hurricane and they have started making wine again. It will be a real treat to visit them; everyone at the winery is a blast--they are the coolest bunch of people and they go out of their way to make sure you're having a good time.

"You can't ask for anything more with this trip: A shuttle bus to take you to and from the winery--there will be buses leaving from both our Princeton and Westfield stores--a spectacular five-course dinner (all prepared at the winery) and paired with Red Hook's extraordinary wines...and since it's taking place in the evening there's also the likelihood of catching the sunset on the pier."

Priced at $160 per person, which includes transportation, the menu is as follows:

*Illiamna Wild, Alaskan, Sockeye Salmon*
CN Seneca Lake Riesling 2010

Local Garden Greens with ‘VSP’ Vinaigrette
BF Pinot Blanc 2010 & BF Viognier 2009

Short Rib Risotto
BF Split Rock Cab Franc 2009 & BF Petite Verdot 2009
or Spring Vegetable Risotto
BF ‘Clone 76’ Chardonnay 2009

Grilled, Marinated Butter Steak
BF Jamesport Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie / Boutique Cheese platter
AS ‘Cthonic’ Riesling 2008 & AS ‘SK Level 1’ 2009

The winery, located at Pier 41, sources all of the grapes used to make its wine from the North Fork of Long Island, except Riesling grapes, which they acquire from the Finger Lakes.

Red Hook owner Mark Snyder is on a mission to expand New York's locally-grown wine selection. A native New Yorker, Snyder, who grew up in Gerritsen Beach, developed a passion for wine while touring the country as a concert technician for Peter Frampton and Billy Joel. When it came time to grow his own wine empire, Snyder stayed true to his home turf.

Shuttle buses will depart from CoolVines, located at 127 Central Ave. in Westfield and 21 Spring St. in Princeton, at approximately 5 p.m. The group will leave the winery at 10 p.m.
