Jazz Trio to Perform at Westfield Memorial Library

The event will take place on Nov. 20.

The Westfield Memorial Library will host the jazz trio of Prisco, Aiello and Messina on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.

Peter Prisco (guitar), Chris Aiello (alto) and Don Messina (double bass) have been playing and performing together for many years in various groups. They have all studied and been involved with the music and teachings of jazz greats Lennie Tristano and Sal Mosca. Collectively they have participated in jazz festivals, have recorded numerous CDs as either a leader or sideman for many different combinations, and have performed in Mid-Atlantic/New England area clubs, colleges, libraries, museums and art centers.

Their music has been influenced by players who are true to the art of improvisation. They strive to create beautiful music “in the moment” that swings. The trio's improvisations are structured over songs from the classic American Songbook (Gershwin, Porter, Kern, etc); compositions by jazz composers (Charlie Parker, Lennie Tristano, Warne Marsh, Lee Konitz, etc.); as well as compositions by the members of the group. Tunes are created spontaneously relying on the intuition of the trio.

The event is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. To register for the program, visit the library’s website atwww.wmlnj.org , click on the Calendar link, or call 908.789.4090 ext 0.
