Jazz Concerts Come to a Close

Streets were packed and crowds were dancing on last night of jazz

The streets were alive Tuesday night in downtown Westfield for the last night of the Sweet Sounds Jazz Festival, sponsored by the Downtown Westfield Corporation. The jazz festival has been held every Tuesday night during the months of July and August from 7-9 p.m.  After last week's cold rainy weather,  the crowds downtown were embracing the hot steamy temperature.  Patrons were dining outside, eating icecream and drinking iced beverages to stay cool.

The jazz bands had an overall lively feel, which was much appreciated by the large bustling crowds.  Grupo Yuri had the crowds dancing on the lawn in front of the northside train station to their latin-inspired violin jams. Children were clutching their white heart-shaped balloons touting downtown Westfield and parents were enjoying the quality jazz music.

Meanwhile, in front of the Banana Republic on Central Avenue, Pam Purvis's band was also attracting a large following with her sultry vocals and jazz riffs.  The seats were filled with a large standing crowd surrounding the area.

Also playing Tuesday night was the Pat Cuttita Band on the corner of North Ave and East Broad Street and the Dave Leonhardt Jazz Trio on the lawn of the First Baptist Church on Elm Street.  It was an overall very successful night for the Sweet Sounds jazz festival, and a perfect way to to end this great summer concert series.
