Get Up, Stand Up in Echo Lake Park Tonight

A Bob Marley Tribute Band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Heat wave got you feeling a little crabby?  Then it's a good thing the Union County Summer Arts Festival's concert series is getting extremely cool. On Wednesday, July 14, the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders invites you to pack a cooler, dig out the old hacky-sack, and bring the family to Echo Lake Park on the Westfield/Mountainside border for an evening of chilled-out reggae: it's the Bob Marley Tribute Show.

This one's a sure bet, whether you're a hardcore Marley-head who's been waiting for a chance to rock steady somewhere other than your parents' basement (though, hey, nice blacklight posters, man) or just a casual fan. A free, all-ages concert is a no-brainer when it comes to relaxing – especially one that lets you pretend you're in, say, a tropical paradise for a few hours. You can expect favorites like "Jammin'," "Get Up, Stand Up," and the classic "No Woman, No Cry," from a professional Bob Marley and the Wailers tribute band, who have been performing the master's Jamaican classics together for years.

"Pack a picnic basket, bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and enjoy the Caribbean sounds of Bob Marley under the stars," Freeholders Chairman Daniel P. Sullivan said in a press release distributed last week. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged, though snacks and drinks will be available from vendors at the concert.
