History of Brewing in Early America

Presentation on the role of taverns and beer in the settling of the colonies, how beer was brewed using different ingredients and methods, and what characterized the different brews.   Sunday's program also includes tours of the restored 1740 farmhouse.  Members of the cooking committee will demonstrate the skills used in 18th century open-hearth cooking, using authentic recipes and seasonal foods.  Taste samples will be offered to visitors.  The gift shop, which carries a variety of colonial toys, crafts, books and educational materials, will be open.  Admission is $2.50 for adults and $1.00 cents for students; children under four are free.
