Habitat for Humanity Newark Third Annual Gala

Help support Habitat for Humanity Newark by attending its third annual Raising Roofs Gala, scheduled for Thursday Oct. 28, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Upper Montclair Country Club, 177 Hepburn Road in Clifton, NJ.

This year's Gala will honor Lucia DiNapoli Gibbons, of Wachovia, A Wells Fargo Company, as Habitat for Humanity Newark's Corporate Partners of the Year. Ten Volunteers of the Year will be honored: the Rev. Christine Leslie, Bishop Loretta P. Smith, Margaret Cook-Levy, Newark Councilwoman Mildred Crump, Theresa Marshall, Darryl Gugig, Jerry Hadley, John W. Scott, Tracey Alexander and Jeffrey J. Farrell.

The event is a major fund raiser that helps support Habitat Newark's mission of building affordable homes in partnership with low income families in Essex County, New Jersey. Tickets are $175 for a silver ticket and $250 for a gold ticket. The gold ticket includes a name listing in the program if purchased before Oct. 18. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.habitatnewark.org/gala/register.html. Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly preferable, but payments can also be made at the door in the form of cash, checks or credit cards.

For more than 20 years, Habitat Newark has built homes for hard-working, low-income families in the Central and West Wards of Newark. Habitat families supply more than 400 hours of sweat equity and receive no interest mortgages, finance by Habitat For Humanity Newark. Habitat Newark offers families a hand up to decent living conditions. More than 70 families have benefited from homes built with generous donations and by thousands of volunteers. Habitat Newark is currently branching out to new neighborhoods in Newark and to other parts of Essex County.

The evening will feature a cocktail reception, awards ceremony and a special performance by Jazz House Kids.
