This special presentation will be the New Jersey Premiere of the movie which opens in theaters across the country a week later on June 28.Copperhead’s cast includes Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer, Killing Lincoln), Angus Macfadyen (Braveheart, Saw III) and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider, Ulee’s Gold). Local Civil War re-enactors are encouraged to attend the screening in uniform. Ron Maxwell will be at the theater in person to conduct a question and answer session with the audience after the film. The Rialto Theater is located at 250 East Broad Street in Westfield, New Jersey. Admission to the special screening is $14.

Maxwell, well known in the motion picture and Civil War communities for his now-classic Civil War movies Gettysburg and Gods and Generals, has turned to the home front with Copperhead, a unique motion picture based on Harold Frederic’s late 19th century novel of the same name. Copperheads were a vocal group of Democrats located in the Union who opposed the American Civil War and advocated for an immediate peace settlement with the Confederates.

Copperhead tells the story of a family torn apart by the war. The title character, Abner Beech, is a New York state farmer who, although he is against slavery, also opposes the war. Beech’s conflicts with a fiery local abolitionist and with his own son, who joins the Union army, highlight the film’s narrative of family and community struggle and tragedy.

Maxwell stated "I'm thrilled to be joining Tom Burke of the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association and Bud Mayo, CEO of Digiplex Destinations for this special pre-release screening of my new movie. As a child of New Jersey, a graduate of Clifton High School and NYU School of the Arts, it's a homecoming and a treat to see Copperhead on the big screen at the Rialto in Westfield with friends old and new."
