Westfielder to Host 'One Seat Ride' Into NYC Presentation
Director emeritus of the Alan Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University, Martin Robins, will speak about 'New York Direct' Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Many riders of the NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line are anxiously waiting a direct train to Penn Station, New York as NJ Transit looks to launch dual-powered locomotives on the line.
New Jersey Transit has purchased 36 dual-locomotives, which can run on either diesel or electric power. Currently, the Raritan Valley Line cannot run electric trains and the Hudson River tunnels cannot accommodate the smoke from diesel-powered locomotives, so by having trains that can switch-over it would eliminate the need for Raritan Valley Riders to transfer.
As part of the Anne and Lee Hale Series, Westfield resident and Director emeritus of the Alan Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University, Martin Robins will speak on “New York Direct” on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Westfield Memorial Library.
Robins serves as Union County’s representative on the board of trustees of the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition, where he is working to ensure that NJ Transit will deploy the locomotives on the Raritan Valley Line.
