Westfield-Based 'Just Farmed' Delivers Organic Goods To LBI

Patrons can order a box of produce either online or by phone

Liquid Bliss Yoga Studios in Ship Bottom will be the pick-up location on Fridays this summer for deliveries of fresh local organic and sustainably grown produce supplied by "Just Farmed."

Just Farmed is located in Westfield, but will be delivering boxes packed with produce harvested earlier in the week from local New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania farms to the Island through August, according to Meredith Lehman, Just Farmed’s founder.

The company delivers directly to homes in Union County from early spring until mid-December, she said.

Ashely Quinn, owner of Liquid Bliss, said she reached out to Lehman shortly after she began the company.

“We both live in Westfield, and when she started delivering there I thought it would great if she could also deliver down here,” she said.

“So, I offered her the studio as a drop off and pick up location,” added Quinn.

Boxes will include a variety of fruits and vegetables from popular items such as berries, melons, stone fruits, corn, tomatoes, eggplant and peppers to the less common, but just as tasty produce like rhubarb, sunchokes, garlic scapes and celeriac, along with a print out of recipes and cooking tips, said Lehman.

Last week’s box held collard greens, carrots, raspberries, blueberries, beets, Jersey corn and string beans, she said.

“Providing organic and fresh food helps round out the overall health and wellness lifestyle we practice here at the studio,” said Quinn.

Yoga students who were just exiting a class stopped to pick up the produce on their way out last Friday.

While they only had eight customers last Friday, Lehman said she is sure once the word gets out the numbers will grow.

“Next summer, we are planning to run a delivery truck directly to LBI homes on Tuesdays,” she said. The shift to earlier in the week should also make the service more appealing to weekly renters, she added.

Lehman said she always looks to provide several varieties of fruits and vegetables. For example, instead of providing only grape tomatoes, she offers grape tomatoes one week, followed by cherry, salad, vine, beefsteak, yellow, red and green. “This allows people to experience a product in all its forms. It's a fun and delicious way to enjoy local produce,” she said.

Boxes are $34 a week, and patrons can sign up for the entire remaining six weeks or weekly via the Web site. There are no contractual fees or opt-out penalties for those that choose the full run option.

Payment is by credit card or by check at time of pick up, according to Lehman.
