Westfield High Community Service Club Raises Funds to Feed Tanzanian School Children

The Westfield High School Community Service Club supported a school across the globe this spring, in conjunction with a non-profit founded by a WHS alumna. The club members sold candy in order to raise more than $1,100 for Project MEMA, which supports two schools and several individual students in Moshi, Tanzania.

The organization was founded by Amy Wendel (WHS class of ’98), and has provided everything from improved facilities to nutritious lunches to scholarships to students in Moshi. The community service club members (pictured here with their candy boxes) were led by club president Eric Herber in their fund-raising activities. 

The money they raised will go directly toward providing rice-and-beans lunches to the Magereza Nursery School in Moshi.

In addition, the humanities class taught by English teacher Steve Cohn and social studies teacher Kim Leegan held a jelly bean-counting contest during lunch periods to raise money for the cause.
