The Union County jail could save roughly $1.2. million a year in costs stemming from inmate healthcare services under the Affordable Care Act – that is, if New Jersey opts into the plan, according to unionnewsdaily.com.
The plan would shift the financial burden of providing Medicaid to inmates from the county, currently paying half of the cost, completely over to the federal government for the first few years, according to unionnewsdaily.com.
