The Weekender: Fallen Soldiers Remembered, Pools Opening

Memorial Day Weekend is upon us with a bounty of parades and pool openings — and at least one indoor event.

The unofficial start of summer is here!

This weekend you'll see everything from bathing suits to the American Flag flying high for our Veterans. It's a time to remember all those who have served our country and those who still are on active duty.

l will be open on Saturday, May 26 at 12 noon.  The pool welcomes residents and non-residents and memberships is required.  Saturday - 12 noon to 8 p.m. - Berkeley Heights.

 will open on Saturday, May 26 at 11 a.m.  Pre-season hours are Saturday and Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Please check the calendar for more hours and registration forms. Saturday and Sunday - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. - New Providence

 celebrates it's opening weekend on Saturday, May 26 at 12 noon.  Membership is for Summit residents only and membership fees vary. Saturday - 12 noon to 8 p.m. - Summit

 is hosting a story time in case you would prefer indoor fun. This will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. in the lower level of the Visitor's Center. Free -Saturday and Sunday 3 p.m. - Mountainside

 in Berkeley Heights will begin at 9:30 a.m. from the Berkeley Heights Rescue Squad Building. All are invited to honor our Veterans. Free - Monday - 9:30 a.m. - Berkeley Heights

in New Providence is hosted by the Borough of New Providence and The American Legion Post #433.  The parade will begin at 10 a.m.  Free - Monday 10 a.m. - New Providence

in Summit will begin at 10 a.m. from Beechwood Road in the back parking lot near the Bouras Building. The parade will proceed to Springfield Avenue where it turns toward Maple Street and on to the Village Green. Free - Monday 10 a.m. - Summit

 will be celebrated in Mountainside with a 12 p.m. start. This is their first memorial day parade and are inviting all to join them in honoring our Veterans. The parade will begin at Constitution Plaza and will conclude in Deerfield's School parking area. Free - Monday 12 p.m. - Mountainside

in Westfield will begin at 9 a.m. from the WWI Memorial Monument Circle. Free - Monday 9 a.m. - Westfield
