The Weekender: Ready, Set, Go – Walk-a-thons Scheduled

It's all about the great outdoors this weekend and charity walks are scheduled.

Lace up your sneakers and get ready for a brisk walk to support a great cause this weekend.   You can join the walk-a-thon for The Paul Jackson 5K, The Lupus Foundation Walk 2012 or the Roosevelt 4th Annual 5K Race to Conquer Childhood Obesity.  Whatever event  you are planning to attend, enjoy the beautiful fall weather and have fun.

Also this weekend, the Fall festivals continue in Summit, Westfield and an Oktoberfest dinner is being offered in New Providence.

Strike up the band and enjoy the wonderful performances at the 41st Annual Marching Band Pageant in Berkeley Heights on Sunday.

Pro Wrestling Comes to Union County

Do you know what a sleeper hold is?  Then you’re going to enjoy this pro wrestling event featuring Matt Hardy and other all star pro wrestlers.  $20.00/person – 6:45 p.m. – Union

“The Neighborhood” at Dreamcatcher Rep Theatre

This funny play is filled with wonderful music and is enjoyable for the entire family.  Tickets: $30.00/person $25.00/senior citizens and students.

Franklin School Pumpkin Fair

The Franklin Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) presents it’s Annual Pumpkin Fair.  This event is rain or shine and features inflatables, an obstacle course, face painting, creepy crafts and so much more.  Free – 11 a.m. – Westfield

“Ground Breaking” Street Art Reveals Complex Underground Water Infrastructure at Westfield Street Fair & Craft Show

New Jersey American Water will showcase the complex, largely beneath the scenes water treatment, delivery and repair processing of our drinking water.  This will be at the Westfield Street Fair & Craft Show which will be held at South Avenue Train Station.  Free – 11 a.m. – Westfield

Fall Festival Fun Family Event

Celebrate Fall at Jefferson School with pony rides, petting zoo, crafts and so much more.  This is rain or shine and all are welcome.  Free – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Summit

Oktoberfest Dinner

The American Legion Post 433 will host an Oktoberfest Dinner.  Seating is limited to fifty people and will be on a first come, first serve basis.  All proceeds will benefit The Christopher B. Cosgrove III, USMC Memorial Fund.  $16.00/adult, $13.00/senior citizens, $10.00/ children under 12 yrs old and Kids 6yrs and younger eat free. –  5 p.m. – New Providence

Sunday

The Paul Jackson 5K/2 Mile Walk-A-Thon/Kids Fun Run

This event will be held at Oak Ridge Park and registration begins at 9 a.m.  The 3rd Annual 5K/2 Mile Walk-a-thon/Kids Fun Run will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the 5K, 9:45 a.m. with the 2 mile walk and 10:30 a.m. for the Kids Fun Run.  $22.00/entrance fee – 9:30 a.m. – Clark

Help raise money for those affected by Lupus and participate in this walk-a-thon.  This event will be held at Nomahegan Park.  Free – 9 a.m. – Cranford

Roosevelt 4th Annual 5K Race to Conquer Childhood obesity

The 5K race will benefit ING run for something better.  This organization is dedicated to eliminating childhood obesity by funding youth running and fitness education programs.  $18.00/students, $28.00/adults – 9 a.m. - Westfield
