NY Times Best Selling Author Visits Westfield

Regina Calcaterra, author of 'Etched in Sand,' will visit the Town Bookstore on Saturday.

New York Times Best-Selling Author, Regina Calcaterra, will visit Westfield’s Town Bookstore on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. for the signing of her memoir, "Etched in Sand."

Calcaterra’s memoir tells the story of her difficult childhood and the struggles she overcame to put herself through college and law school to ultimately climb the ranks of the New York State Government where she currently serves as a state attorney.

She and her siblings were abused and abandoned by their mentally ill, drug-addicted, violent, abusive and unstable mother while growing up on Long Island and Calcaterra made the decision at the age of fourteen to become emancipated.

“Her book reminds us that it’s possible to suffer the unimaginable and still grow up to make a difference,” people magazine said. They also called the book powerful.

The book also chronicles her experiences drifting through variously foster homes, shelters and abandoned houses.

Calcaterra has also appeared on Inside Edition.
In the interview, she told Inside Edition that she and her siblings used to make beds out of cardboard boxes and sleep behind a local supermarket. They would also spend many days using a Long Island library as a shelter.
