Freeholder Board, Senator Lesniak, Mayor Bollwage, Tom Colicchio Of “Top Chef” Join To Urge Gov. Christie To Prevent Cuts To Food Program

Union County, NJ – Representatives of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders will join Elizabeth native Tom Colicchio, world renowned chef, author, restaurateur and judge on the Emmy-winning “Top Chef” TV show, together with Senator Raymond Lesniak, Adele LaTourette, Director of The New Jersey Anti-Hunger Coalition, Analilia Mejia, Executive Director of NJ Working Families, and Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwagetomorrow morning, to urge Governor Chris Christie to act to prevent damaging cuts to the SNAP program, which helps feed the hungry.

The Freeholder Board will also partner Union County in an initiative to be announced by Senator Lesniak, that would be incorporated into the receipt of the restored SNAP benefits. Under this initiative, recipients would receive video and printed material on healthy eating to be eligible to receive the restored benefits.  Approximately 23,000 SNAP households in Union County will potentially be able to take part in the initiative.
