Downtown Westfield Named ‘Great Place in NJ’ by Planners

Westfield is recognized as having one of the three best downtowns in New Jersey.

The Town of Westfield has been recognized as a ‘Great Place in New Jersey’ by the American Planning Association-New Jersey Chapter.

The APA-NJ recognizes unique and exemplary downtowns, streets, neighborhoods and public spaces, according to the organization, which they note as essential components of exceptional communities.

“I am very proud of our downtown, with its charming layout, its storefront facades rich with architectural distinction, and its wide variety of shops and restaurants, as well as all of the hard-working merchants, professionals, restaurateurs, and proprietors who have chosen Westfield as their business home,” said Mayor Andy Skibitsky.

President Charles Latini, JR., AICP of the APA-NJ said it’s no accident that Downtown Westfield was named as one of the best downtowns, nor is it an accident that it has continued to strive through tough times.

Donwtown Westfield, along with Downtown Freehold and Montclair Center were noted by the APA-NJ to have benefited by the ongoing planning and investments by both the public and private sector. The organization added that all three are clearly loved by their communities.

“Our staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly for the last 20 years to make Downtown Westfield a vibrant regional destination," said Sherry Cronin, Executive Director, Downtown Westfield Corporation. "With over 450 businesses within our district, we have much to offer shoppers, diners and visitors.”
