Busy Weekend for Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad

The squad is in its 62nd year of providing a free service to the community.

In addition to responding to 20 emergency calls between midnight Friday and 12 a.m. Monday, the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, dispatched an ambulance to Newark Liberty International Airport to participate in the Port Authority's Air Train drill on Saturday morning.

The mock exercise tested preparedness in the event of an Air Train disaster.

Later that afternoon, the all-volunteer rescue squad had an ambulance on standby at the Westfield High School football game.

On Sunday, the rescue squad provided an ambulance and had an extra crew on duty at the 23rd annual Festifall.

Funded entirely through tax-deductible donations, the squad is in its 62nd year of providing emergency medical services to the community of Westfield and beyond. Dedicated volunteers respond to traumatic and medical emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Located at 335 Watterson Street, the crew is currently seeking new members. To learn more about the squad, its mission or becoming a new volunteer member, call 908-233-2500.
