Why You Should Forget Your (Initial) New Year's Resolution

Ladies, the holidays and New Year’s resolutions have come and gone.  If you’re like most of us, at least one of your resolutions falls into these top three of 2014:  (1) lose weight  (2) get organized (3) spend less, save more.   This was the year you were going to get organized at home and work so you could have more time to care for yourself and reach your health goals. You were going to eat better, join the gym, follow a diet, lose weight, and have that perfect body by Spring.

Flash forward to February: The “polar vortex” and winter blues are upon us. You are following all of your resolutions, right? Sort of?  Sometimes? Well, maybe you stroll on the treadmill while looking at your phone and thinking about how badly you want Summer to come so you can hit the beach. Then, the thought of getting into that bathing suit strikes. Maybe then you increase your speed or distance. Does this sound familiar?

The truth is that most women’s New Year’s Resolutions revolve around unrealistic, uninspiring diets, and impersonal box gyms, where they work out as a form of self-punishment for overindulging during the winter and holiday seasons. Engaging in fad diets and boring gym routines are behaviors that lead to failure, depression, and binge eating, and why so many women make the same resolutions to get fit year after year - -because these behaviors just don’t work in the first place.
