Westfield Area Y'S Devilfish Swimmers Compete At 2014 YMCA National Swimming Championships

Recently nine members of the Westfield Area Y “Devilfish” Swim Team qualified to compete at the 2014 YMCA Short Course National Swimming Championships held in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Senior standout Caroline Baldwin continued her exceptional performances qualifying for multiple individual event finals and breaking her own team records. Baldwin sprinted to a second place finish in 50 Free with an amazing time of 22.88 setting a new WY record as well as the state record for New Jersey.

 She touched seventh in 200 Backstroke, setting a new team standard at 1.58.54 and placed tenth in 100 Back with a WY record time of 54.97.

Other meet highlights include many best times recorded in prelims and time trials including a Devilfish team record time of 3.33.27 in the Womens Open 400 Freestyle Relay by the team of Kim Jimenez, Gwyn Devin, Allie McBrearty and Baldwin and the 15-18 Women's 200 Medley relay in a time of 1:47.77 by the team of Caroline Basil, Gwyn Devin, Erika Daniel and Caroline Baldwin.  

Caroline Basil set a new WY record of 4.43.79 for the Womens 400IM.  Basil, Kevin Clauss, Devin, Jimenez, McBrearty and McGrory recorded personal best times. Congratulations to all members of the 2014 WY National Team and their coaches:  Caroline Baldwin, Audrey Bangs, Caroline Basil, Kevin Clauss, Erika Daniel, Gwyn Devin, Kim Jimenez, Allie McBrearty, Luke McGrory, Head Age Group Coach Jackie Whitty, and Head Coach Brian Guidera.
