WESTFIELD AREA Y KICKS OFF ITS 16th YEAR OF THE BLACK ACHIEVERS PROGRAM

The Westfield Area Y is kicking off the 2013-2014 Black Achievers Program with a special event on October 9th from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Main Y Facility, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

Parents and youth, ages 13-17, 9th-12th grade students, are invited to learn more about the Westfield Area Y’s Achievers Program and the program’s workshops, keynote speakers and more. Refreshments will be served.

The Achievers Program began at the Harlem YMCA in 1968 as a conduit to helping youth develop life coping skills and education goals. The program began at the Westfield Area Y 16 years ago and matches youth with successful minority professionals as role models in an effort to raise the academic standards of young people, expose students to diverse career options and inspire them to reach their goals. The Achievers also participate in community service activities, celebrate Black History Month and receive college prep tutoring and essay assistance.
