Rotary District 7510 Governor Visits Rotary Club of Mountainside

The Rotary Club of Mountainside was pleased to welcome our 2013-14 District Governor Tulsi Maharjan for his official visit at our previous weekly meeting.

During the meeting, DG Tulsi addressed the club.  He spoke about what his District slogan, “Passion for Action” meant to him and should mean to others.  He said each individual club member should pick a cause that is passionate to them and put into action activities that would yield results for the benefit of that cause.  DG Tulsi highlighted some of the good works being done as examples of causes to get involved in.  He mentioned how the prior efforts of the Mountainside Club had enabled several libraries to be funded and established in his home country of Nepal.  He mentioned how some children in Nepal don’t attend school because their families can’t afford just the $30/year tuition and how over the years his personal efforts has raised money to pay their tuition to send over 600 children to school.  His goal is to fund 1000 children.  This is his passion, not only because he is originally from Nepal, but because as a child he recalled the Red Cross day in his village when pencil sets would be distributed.  As a child, each year he looked forward with excitement towards that day arriving just to receive the simple gift of a pencil set.  “That,” he said, “is how much children less fortunate to have the things we here in the U.S. take for granted are excited when provided for them to receive.”  DG Tulsi also spoke about his mission to help autistic children here in our Rotary District.  He spoke about a recent fair the Hillsborough Rotary Club held inviting the parents of autistic children to bring them.  Unsure how many would actually attend, they were overwhelmed with happiness when 500 autistic children attended and they saw the joy they were having at the fair.  In that regard, DG Tulsi mentioned how is proven that helping others brings joy and happiness to one’s self.  Concluding the meeting, DG Tulsi bestowed on each member a Nepalese prayer shawl that he said was to bless each of us with success our future endeavors.
