Every year, the New Jersey association Of Student Councils choose a NJ charity for all participating school's student councils to raise money through fundraising and school events. This past year, the Hugs for Brady Charity was chosen.
This non-profit organization was created by Brady's parents, after he passed away at a young age from childhood cancer. The goals of the organization are to increase funding for childhood cancer research and to help NJ families with suffering children. During the 2012-2013 school year, Roosevelt Intermediate School's; in Westfield, NJ, student council worked tirelessly to raise money for the Hugs for Brady Charity.
Money was raised through bake sales, t-shirt sales (viewed in picture), charity week events, school dances, and more. The community came together to raise $3,500. The students at Roosevelt decided to use a portion of the funds raised to purchase a Brady Buggy for JFK hospital in Edison, NJ.
The Brady Buggy is a small wagon designed so that a child can fit in while his/her IV pole is attached to the back. When Brady was sick, he was too heavy to be carried all of the time, but he was too young to walk around on his own. The buggy provides the children with something fun and out of the ordinary during their mundane hospital visits; it also assists the parents in scenarios where their child is too heavy to carry.
