LearningRx Warren Celebrates 22nd Winter Olympic Games with Special “Brain Olympics” Competition for Area Students

Warren, New Jersey – The 22nd Winter Olympic games in Sochi are well underway. More than 2,800 athletes from 88 countries are valiantly competing against one another for the chance to win a coveted Olympic medal in one of the 98 events spanning seven different sports. But all the fun and the spirited competition isn’t just happening halfway across the world, it’s also happening right here in Warren at the LearningRx Brain Training Center located at 34 Mountain Boulevard.

The brain training experts at LearningRx Warren have teamed up with the local homeschool community and are sponsoring a Brain Olympics competition at the Center on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Mental athletes from The Little Way Home School Coop in Berkeley Heights and the Homeschool Group at St. Magdalen’s Church in Flemington will compete in an afternoon of fun filled, brain boosting competitions.  Athletes will create their own team names and flags and fuel up on healthy brain foods before facing off in six different events, including a backwards spelling bee, a memory marathon, a speed stack competition and other events designed to target and train attention, memory, visualization, processing speed, logic and auditory processing.

According to Marcia Douglas, Owner/Executive Director of LearningRx Warren, “We are really looking forward to this event and know it will be a fun and educational afternoon for all involved. While medals and prizes will be awarded, for these Mental Athletes and all our brain training clients, the real prize is the benefit is that fun, but intense mental exercise can have on the brain – smarter thinking, faster processing and better memory.”

Douglas’ sentiments aren’t just rhetoric, they are research based and scientifically proven fact.  Advances in medical science over the last 40 years prove the brain can be rewired, which means the way people think, reason, learn, remember and pay attention, isn’t set in stone. The human brain can always be changed and improved.

Even Olympic caliber athletes like Sally Francklyn can attest to the amazing benefits of brain training. Francklyn is a writer, skier, and much-loved personality in the freeskiing industry that has been the focus of much of the Olympic events in Sochi. She is also the victim of a severe traumatic brain injury from a skiing accident. The past year and a half of her life have been beyond difficult, but with a lot of hard work, an indomitable spirit, and the help of professionals including the brain training experts at LearningRx, Francklyn is working to overcome traumatic brain injury. Her incredible journey has been chronicled on ESPN.

According to Douglas, “The LearningRx story is made up of thousands of stories just like this one—stories of individuals and families who come to us looking for a “big solution”—not a temporary fix but a game changer—and find exactly what they so desperately needed. Even right here in our Warren Center, we have helped many victims of TBI. It’s amazing to be a part of these emotional recoveries. It’s also incredibly rewarding to be a part of this life changing training for children and adults looking to improve performance at school or work, in sports and in life. I’m not an Olympian, but seeing our clients thrive with brain training is my personal gold medal.”
