Free Special Needs Program Sampler At The Westfield Area Y

The Westfield Area Y is pleased to announce a new Program Sampler for people ages 18-26 with special needs. Thanks to the proceeds raised from Greta’s Run, a 5K Run/Walk in memory of Greta Schoenemann, a Westfield High School student who died from injuries sustained on September 11, 2002, the samplers below are free of charge.

There are a variety of samplers being offered. They are as follows:

· Fitness -Saturday, May 24th, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm in the Weldon Room, Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

· Art –Saturday, June 7th, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the duCret School of Art, 1030 Central Avenue in Plainfield.

· Cooking –Saturday, June 14th, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm at the Classic Thyme Cooking School - 710 South Avenue West, Westfield.

· Swim/Social –Saturday, June 21st, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Rooke Pool, Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

· Yoga –Saturday, June 28th, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm in the Weldon Room at the Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

Registration is going on now. You do not need to be a Y Member or Westfield resident to participate in this Program Sampler. Y Members can register online or at the Main Y Facility. The goal of the Program Sampler is to determine next steps for programming at the Y for young adults with special needs. Future programs will require a Y membership. Financial assistance is available and class cost will be subsidized by Greta’s Run proceeds. The Westfield Area Y accepts Easter Seals.
