DESCRIPTION:WESTFIELD - The first guestspeaker and demonstrator for the W
estfield Art Association&rsquo\;s 91st season will be Leslie Delgyer\, a
world-renowned artist and environmental conservationist residing in Nor
th Plainfield\, NJ. Leslie is a graduate of the duCret School of Art\, a
Signature Member of Artists for Conservation\, a member of the Salmagun
diClub\, the Pastel Society of America\, and a past president of the Soc
iety of Animal Artists. Leslie has received many regional as well as nat
ional honors and is represented in public\, corporate and private collec
tions.\nLeslie will present on her fascinating 30-year artistic journey
toward conservation of the environment for the preservation of endangere
d species of the planet. One can imagine that the regular\, close engage
ment of subjects such as boa constrictors\, wolves\, cheetahs\, tigers\,
and polar bears as models for artworks requires unusual passion\, devot
ion and fortitude on the part of the artist. On occasion\, wild animals
can become potentially lethal without warning and Leslie has endured her
share of the close calls\, several of which have been caught on camera.
\nCommissioned by Prince Philip\, in conjunction with the World Wildlife
Fund to work on their conservation stamp collection\, Leslie became the
first American artist to workon a stamp project for Russia after their
emergence from Communism. The subject was the Siberian Tiger. In 1987\,
Leslie painted portraits of then President Ronald Reagan's two dogs\, Lu
cky and Rex. From the White House the paintings now hang in the Ronald R
eagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley\, California.\n&ldq
