The events of September 11, 2001 started a nationwide conversation about grief. The National Alliance for Grieving Children is a network around the United States and internationally of programs like Imagine, that serve grieving children, teens and families every day. Below are some additional links to organizations and websites that support grieving children and adults.
Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss - local free grief support programs in Westfield, NJ and serving all of Union County and beyond.
Grief Net - an Internet community of persons dealing with grief, death, and major loss.
Imagine, is a non-profit based in Westfield that provides free year-round peer support programs for children age 3-18, young adults 18-30 and for parents, guardians and other adults.
On average, one of three youth in every classroom is grieving a loss of some kind. Children in grief are at greater risk for poor school performance, depression, suicide, addiction or simply not living life fully and joyfully. Imagine support groups are designed to effectively intervene and prevent some of the negative outcomes associated with unaddressed grief.
Support groups offer help and healing through modalities such as art, play, drama, physical activities, journaling and talk. Imagine support groups are facilitated by extensively trained adult volunteers and overseen by Imagine clinical staff.
Loss provides the opportunity to grow personally and spiritually and to develop
deeper empathy and compassion. It can be a transformative experience for
all of us if we get the love and support we need.
Imagine is a privately funded nonprofit. All of our support programs are completely free to children and families. For more information, to volunteer, donate or register for a support group, please contact Imagine at 908-264-3100 or firstname.lastname@example.org and on the web at www.imaginenj.org.
